They did a five and a half minute story on her "Thanks but no thanks" fabrication, including an interview with the guy who coined the name "Bridge to Nowhere."

They also followed it up with a pretty funny story on putting lipstick on pigs.

Ha! I heard that too. I especially loved the sound byte of John McCain using the pig/lipstick phrase himself. I'm also kind of sadistically looking forward to hearing what kind of flack the show gets for the pig/lipstick experiment.

It was pretty funny and seemed a little out of character for them which was part of what made it so funny (plus the farmer's deadpan delivery was hilarious).

Ah good -- I heard the pig lipstick story on my drive home, and it annoyed me, because it seemed too fluffy. I missed the 1st story before it. Good deal.

It was actually a three-piece story. I just didn't link to the first one which was about earmarks and how Palin hired a lobbyist to get $23 million in them when she was mayor of Wasilla (the first time any mayor had done that in the town) and how she's requested and gotten more pork spending per capita than any other state. Altogether, the three made quite a juggernaut of reporting on the hypocrisy of the Republicans. Hearing it made me feel a little more hopeful that maybe something will change.

That's awesome. NPR's preaching to the choir, but hey, we're a grumpy choir.

I think this is the end of McCain's "bump" from the Palin selection. His campaign is done, I tell ya.

Plus the guy's too creepy to be prez.

I hope you're right. I just feel sick about it, just like I used to about the Red Sox before they finally won. There's this sense of doom, that, no matter what, the Dems are fated to find a way to screw it up and lose. And, yes, your right about him being too creepy. That smile of his at the convention looked so forced and unnatural. Brrrrr.

Palin was McCain's last gasp, and now he's down to Rove-style "hardball" that totally ignores the issues and goes right to character assassination.

What's interesting is how quiet the media is today, since both condidates "took the day off" from campaiging for 9/11. People will have forgotten the lipstick by tomorrow, if they haven't already... I hope!

You're probably right about the lipstick being forgotten. It'll be interesting how hard Gibson goes after Palin in his interview. I'm assuming it's going to pretty much be a softball interview though, otherwise the McCain campaign wouldn't have allowed him to talk to her. I'm also looking forward to the debates when issues will start playing a larger role.

Yes -- the debates ought to show people the truth about all the candidates. If people watch...

Charlie Gibson is such a tool.

I still wonder how he managed to turn himself into a "legitimate" journalist after his stint on Good Morning America.
