Considering that Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin, is younger and has even less experience than Barak Obama  (two arguments lobbed by Republicans for month as to why Obama is unfit to be president) my only thought as to why McCain picked her for his ticket is that it's a cynical attempt to pull disgruntled Hillary supporters from Obama into the McCain camp.  "Look," they can shout, "We support women!  We've got a woman running for vice-president!  And Obama snubbed Hillary!  But we didn't!  Sort of!"

There's nothing cynical about that conclusion; sPalin just admitted as much in her speech.

Does admitting it make it not cynical?

There's nothing cynical about you drawing the conclusion, which is out there for everyine to see; McCain's decision is certainly cynical.

That was what I'd meant was cynical -- McCain's choice, rather than my observation.

She also shores him up with the religious right, anti-abortion groups, and anti-gay marriage crowds.

That's true but there were lots of other potential VP picks that would have done the same. Especially in light of the recent revelations about her (and the potential for more), I really wonder why she was picked.

What? We're interchangeable.

One woman for another? what's the big deal? i for one have barely noticed that they are not the same person. Oh! except for the fact that Palin is Uber pro-life, wants creationism taught in schools, and plays the flute. (She used this as her talent in a beauty contest she was in in 1984). In the words of Rush L. "We got a Babe in our side!"
