X is playing in Minneapolis this Saturday night at the Cabooze but I've already made plans to go see the MN Rollergirls with
haddayr and
snurri. I was kind of disappointed as I've never seen X but have always been a big fan so I checked out the X website where they had some videos of the band recently playing live. Curious to see how they sounded 31 years after they formed, I clicked on the videos only to unleash what I can only imagine will be a on a PBS pledge drive at some future date hoping to rake in money from nostalgic Gen Xers. Yes, the video is full of audience shots of clean cut dorks smiling happily and nodding their heads in agreement with each song, gently bouncing to the rhythms, and looking at each other with "Isn't this a heck of a lot of fun" expressions on their faces. Just like the Baby Boomers who I see during pledge drives watching the Moody Blues or some doo wop group. God it's depressing to see good bands get old and just not matter anymore. In retrospect, I'm glad to be seeing the Rollergirls kick some ass instead.
