I just came across these images showing the costumes for the upcoming Watchmen movie:

Aside from the fact that Nite -Owl isn't fat, the costumes actually make me kind of excited about the movie (The Rorschach image really does look cool) although I am reminded of the fact that the costumes for another Moore adaptation, V for Vendetta, were also pretty cool but then the movie royally sucked.  I'm really worried that the same fate shall befall any Watchmen adaptation as well.  When the comic first came out I was working in low budget movies and my fellow lighting director and I were totally geeked out about all the possibilities of a movie adaptation (we both loved the fact that the movie was already storyboarded with pullbacks, dollies, wideshots, closeups, etc.).  In the  following years, watching wretched adaptations of comics, my hopes of a good Watchmen movie have diminished greatly.  In the meantime, though, these photos look pretty cool.

Mm, I'm not loving them, really. Rorshach looks good, and the Comedian is decent, but the whole anatomically-correct-rubber-fetish-gear thing is just so tired. I know it's hard to make costumes look any good off the page, but I wish they'd try something different.

I agree with you on the rubber fetish gear but I'm just happy the costumes aren't all black (I kind of expect them all to have that rubber look nowadays). I do really like the Rorschach photo, although my biggest problem is with Nite-Owl and that he just doesn't look fat and I don't see how he ever would in the costume they designed for him. The fact that he's put on the pounds is pretty important to his character, I think. I guess Hollywood just can't handle having a fat superhero (or any sort of overweight leading man in an action movie).

Maybe Nite Owl's rubber suit has a built-in girdle :-)
