because racism stereotyped black men as more “masculine” for so long that some white men find their presence to be masculinity-affirming (as long as there aren’t too many of them) [emphasis added]

Which masculinity-affirming stereotype would that be? The one of the scary black thug who's out to get white women and beat up their men? Or maybe it's the non-threatening black sidekick who I see hanging out with his group of white friends in sitcoms and ads about prostate health?
