This is quite possibly the most bizarre news story I've ever read.  It hardly seems plausible.

The problem with making a big deal about how much experience you have is that  eventually people will start to examine what that experience actually is.  This comes from today's Boston Globe:

Many members of Congress said they believe Hillary Clinton has a deep and sincere commitment to children's health issues. She has sponsored numerous bills and amendments dealing with a plethora of healthcare matters.

But privately, some lawmakers and staff members are fuming over what they see as Clinton's exaggeration of her role in developing SCHIP, including her campaign ads claiming she "helped create" the program. The irritation has grown since Nov. 1, when Clinton - along with fellow senators and presidential candidates Barack Obama, Chris Dodd, and John McCain - missed a Senate vote to extend the SCHIP program, which was approved without the votes of those lawmakers. Yesterday, Time published a similar piece examining Hillary's claims at helping with the same health care bill, helping to bring peace to Northern Ireland, and negotiating open borders for Kosovar refugees.  In each instance, the conclusion is that Clinton has exaggerated the facts to make her role appear much larger than it actually was.

So why is it, again, that I should trust that Hillary's experience makes her more qualified to answer that red phone at 3 a.m .?

 

Could Bartolo Colon be a major factor in the Red Sox rotation?

Yesterday, Colon made his Grapefruit League debut for the Sox going two innings, giving up one run on a solo shot and getting out of a bases loaded, no out jam, unscathed (a mess that was caused, in part, by an Alex Cora E6).  Colon threw 26 pitches but, more importantly, topped off at 94 mph on the radar gun and was consistently in the 92-93 mph range with his fastball (as well as hitting 84-88 with his slider and 81 with his change-up).  In all, a pretty good debut for a guy who was written off by most clubs and only signed by the  Red Sox to a non-guaranteed minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The name I keep hearing him compared to is Luis Tiant, another former Indian, who the Sox picked up off the scrap heap in 1971.  Tiant was trying to bounce back from several injury plagued seasons which followed a fantastic 1968 season (that saw him post a 21-9 record with a 1.60 ERA), much as Colon is now (Colon was limited to only 18 starts over the past two seasons following his Cy Young season in 2005).

I certainly can't expect Colon to reproduce El Tiante's career resurrection with the Red Sox in the 1970's (in which he became the staff ace and helped pitch the team to the 7th game of the 1975 World Series), but I really am excited but what I've heard about so far.  Even if  he's only as good as a 2nd  or 3rd starter I'd be happy.  So far, word from the scouts who've been watching him this spring is that they wish they're teams signed him.

I feel so lame, I don't even know who this band is and I consider myself knowledgeable about punk.  Jeez, what a loser.

AAAAARRGHHHHHH!

My son, Éiden, has spent the past TWO HOURS in the bathroom.  No, I am not exaggerating.  In fact, I am maybe giving a conservative estimate.  This would be fine, I guess if it weren't a daily occurrence.  Never in my wildest imaginings did I ever think I would spend the bulk of my time uttering the words, "Éiden, you need to wipe your bottom now," until I'd gotten a headache from it.

Psychos in Love

Someone posted some scenes from Psychos in Love, the movie I worked on (and appeared in) in high school.  It's the story of two psychotic killers who, upon meeting, discover they both share the same passion for slashing and a mutual hatred of grapes (all kinds of grapes!), fall in love, kill people, and tell really bad jokes.  I'm always surprised when I find people who like this movie.
