Today, as I put Arie on the bus, I asked him if I could give him a kiss goodbye. He looked at the open bus doors and the driver waiting for him and then he looked back at me.

"No thanks," he said, politely, then got on the bus to go to school.

I knew it would happen someday. I just hoped it wouldn't be so soon.

I definitely feel torn -- part of me was happy because it's a sign that he's getting older but the other part is sad for that very same reason.

I know. It works out for the best and it's a great sacrifice you're making, is all I can really say.

FWIW, my son's sixteen, now, and he still likes it if I kiss him on the head when we hug, as long as I don't do it all the time in front of the wrong people.

That's sweet. I don't think I let my mom do that, at least not willingly.
