Who knew you could transcribe a Hüsker song so that it sounded like something you might hear in your dentist's waiting room? Or worse, the New Age Spiritual Guidance Center?

(For a reference point, here's the original song, about 3:13 into the clip)

While I like 4AD's goth light, a lot of it is a hyper generic speak-lilt. I think you could fit damn near any lyric into that with only slight altering of cadence and the synths and acoustic samples. I vividly imagined her sing-reciting "Colors": The gangs of LA wi-ill ne-ver die [beat] [beat] [beat] ju-u-ust mul-ti-plyyy.

Also, and this might only make sense to a Chicagoan, it looks like they shot it in the urn corner of one of those tacky furniture stores on Milwaukee avenue on a rainy day. Just out of shot are the zebra stripe sofas and the glass table with a base that looks like a naked woman rendered in faux-onyx.

I hadn't realized she'd sung with This Mortal Coil until you mentioned the 4AD connection, but I can't say I'm surprised (I've always deeply hated This Mortal Coil. They've just sounded offensively bland to me, though I have friends that love them).

They had those same furniture stores in Connecticut, though I'm not sure if any of them are still in business.
