This year, Arie had one of the most amazing teachers I've ever met. As most people who read my blog probably know, Arie can be a very difficult and challenging child. But he's also bright, funny, very good-hearted and kind, and incredibly inquisitive. His teacher this year, seemed to see only the good stuff in him. "If I had a classroom of kids just like Arie, I'd be thrilled," she said on more than one occasion. There are so many things she did to not only challenge Arie academically, but also to make him feel special, and like he was just as much a part of the class as everyone else.

Years from now, I hope Arie looks back on his first grade teacher and realizes that she was one of the best, because [livejournal.com profile] haddayr and I certainly realize it now. I'm so glad that our son was in her class, and I don't think I've ever felt so sad about the end of a school year before.

After such a difficult year in kindergarten, we're both so thrilled he had a great year in first grade, and a lot of it has to do with his teacher -- the teacher he had last year really wasn't his biggest fan, and I think it had an effect on how he did, whether Arie noticed it or not (and he didn't, which was good -- he had no idea that his kindergarten teacher didn't really like him).

I heard about his report card. I am so proud of him! I had a good first grade teacher. I will never forget her.

Last night, at dinner, Arie said in all seriousness, "She may be the best teacher I ever have."

I had a great first and second grade teacher, and I remember both of them well.

I hope she isn't the only one. It is good that she was there to make such a difference early on. I have high hopes for next year for him. I will be here in NC cheering him on.

He hasn't talked about it yet, so I'm not sure. Probably not, though I'm sure he will be when we found out who his teacher is next year.
