"Gov. Palin’s administration acknowledges that it is still pursuing a project that would link Ketchikan to its airport -- with the help of as much as $73 million in federal funds earmarked by Congress for the original project."

 

That's right, the Bridge to Nowhere is still on, just scaled down, and we'll be helping to foot the bill for the reform Governor who's gonna take on the special interests, shake up Washington, and do away with all those earmarks (unless of course, they happen to be earmarks for the great state of Alaska).  Here's the full article.

Oh, and in case you were wondering how Palin killed the Bridge to Nowhere, according to a McCain campaign spokesperson, she killed the Bridge when Washington gave here the money and she refused to spend a dime of it on the Bridge.

Y'know, I flew to Ketchikan a couple of years ago, and I can't understand why they would bother building a bridge to the airport. I would guess that fewer than half a dozen flights come in there a day, and there's a ferry that runs constantly.

I've got no gripe with the state building a bridge there, I would just like the McPalin's to at least be honest about how it's being paid for.

Well, I guess I'm saying that if the bridge is going to cost as much as everyone says, it doesn't seem worth it regardless. It's about a five-minute ride across the Channel, and most of Ketchikan's tourism comes through via cruise ship anyway.
