This is a link to a band called Hooper Piccalero.  The trombonist is Matt Plummer who used to date my sister-in-law and who haddayr  still keeps in touch with.  The band was just reviewed on WFMU's Beware the Blog.  I don't know if this is the same band of Matt's that I'd heard before, but whether they are or not, they are awesome. They play really odd, free-wheeling jazz, the kind that would make Captain Beefheart jealous.  Their song, "What the Fuck" rivals anything the Butthole Surfers ever put out, and I mean that as the sincerest form of flattery.  At the very list, give that song a listen.  Good stuff -- you won't be disappointed.

Honestly... I have no clue. And it's amusing and engaging, but it simply makes me scratch my head and go, "Huh."

It is pretty weird but I do like really weird music in that vein (though I know not everyone, if not most, don't). Did you listen to "No Vignettes"? Apparently they called Steve Inskeep's (of NPR) voicemail and left a horn rant on it. It's kind of funny.
