And because, as I said yesterday, it's hard for me to pass up an opportunity to post something about Hüsker Dü, here's some old footage recently posted on YouTube from 1983. The show was in Philly with the Hüskers playing tracks off their soon to be released Zen Arcade. It's actually some of the best live footage I've seen from them. Over twenty years later, they're still one of the best bands I've seen play.

"Something I Learned Today"

And, if you're interested, here's some links for more clips from the same show:
"Broken Home, Broken Heart"
"Chartered Trips"/"Sunshine Superman"
"It's Not Funny Anymore" plus 3 more
"Eight Miles High"

Husker Du! Ah! the memories!

Did you buy any of the Sugar albums when they came out?

I did. And then regretted it. Each had a couple decent songs but, on the whole, were disappointing. There's just something missing -- sort of like Paul McCartney's solo work. Fundamentally, the songs are fine, but they're just too polished and lacking in herart. I really liked Grant's first EP and LP a lot, though (2541 and Intolerance), but then I think I've always leaned more towards his songs than Bob's. I used to go see Bob Mould just about every time he came through Minneapolis but then stopped. I did see him play on his last tour, though, because I heard he was finally playing old Hüskers material. Most of the show was okay, but when he came out for an encore and lit into "Divide and Conquer," it was truly transcendent. I felt like I was a fifteen year old kid again, hearing the song for the very first time.

Did you follow Sugar?

I followed both Husker Du and Sugar. I think I followed them for different things. Bob is a little too pat, but I'm okay with it. It's not Husker Du, but it's okay.

I guess you can't trust me though. I like Wings. I really don't care much for McCartney's work outside of Wings, but I liked Wings.
