I just read about it on the Boston Globe website:

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2008/08/19/yaz_hospitalized_in_boston/

He was admitted with chest pains.  When his spokesman was asked if it was serious, he responded, "Any time you are in the hospital, it's got to be pretty serious."

Though I'm too young to have been around for his 1967 Triple Crown season, I worshipped Yaz when I was a kid.  He was my absolute favorite player.  Part of it was that he was Polish, like me.  Part of it was his crazy batting stance.  Part of it was the nickname -- Yaz.  But he was also a great player -- someone like Big Papi is to my kids -- who I ran to the television to watch when he was up at bat.  I still remember watching the last Red Sox  game of the 1978 season when Carl Yastrzemski stepped to the plate in the bottom of the ninth.  I was heartbroken when, instead of getting a hit to tie the game like I was sure he would, he popped up to Graig Nettles at third to end the game.  My thoughts go out to Yaz, hoping that he makes a full and quick recovery.
