Arie and Éiden just watched The Empire Strikes Back for the first time.  When Darth Vader told Luke he was Luke's father, Arie gasped and quickly turned to me, his jaw hanging open in disbelief and astonishment, absolutely stunned at the revelation.

"Is that true?" he asked.  "Is Darth Vader really his father?"

When I said yes, he again gasped, his mouth still open in stunned disbelief, and turned back to watch the end of the movie.

This is awesome.

It reminds me of one of my coworkers telling me how her daughter (8 years old) just saw the old Adams Family TV show for the first time and thought it was the latest, big thing like a brand new series.

My son has spent the weekend listening to the vinyl soundtrack as his back drop for EVERYTHING. Great timing. I knew you could appreciate this. It is a two record set. He proudly flips and resets it himself.

I was pretty pleased, both for him and for me because his reaction made it almost as enjoyable as seeing the movie for the first time myself

Last year I gave the boys my old kids records, one of which is a STAR WARS storybook LP. Éiden's sort of gets how to work the record player but Arie does a great job taking care of them and making sure not to actually touch the vinyl with his fingers (a much better job than I ever did as a kid, I might add).

That was my exact reaction to the Ewoks.

That is so awesome. We could have a Star Wars record party!

Yeah, I was going to say, tell your sons the series ends there, unless you want to make them cry.

Is that because they were so adorable, you just couldn't believe it and had to pinch yourself to make sure you weren't dreaming?

They're young enough (6 and 4) that I think they'll actually like the movie a lot and will probably think the Ewoks are great (Éiden, after all, laughed like crazy at the trailer for that stupid Chihuahua movie which, if yu haven't seen it, is pretty bad).

He actually had a bunch of awe-inspired gasps throughout the movie as well as a bunch of "Oh no!"'s

Precisely!

Oh, wait, no, it was the crashing realization that my childhood myth had been spectacularly destroyed in order to line a dullard's pockets.

To this day I think that could have been a seriously kick-ass movie if someone pulled Lucas away from the controls and cut out all the Ewoks/puppets crap. It coulda been a contendah, instead, it wound up a schill for the Star Wars toy line.
