I hate cars
Dec. 10th, 2008 03:24 pmOur Volvo has been sitting dead in front of our house for the past few weeks because it just won't keep a charge. Today, I called the mechanic and he told me to bring it in. After taking Éiden to school, I jump-started the damn thing and planned on driving it down to the shop and taking the bus.
Luckily,
haddayr was home and saw me outside. She said she'd follow behind in our Saturn and drive me back home. I say luckily, not because I hate taking the bus or because waiting outside in sub-zero wind chills can be painful, but because I as I drove down our street, planning to fill it up with gas just a coupl blocks away, the Volvo ran out of gas and died. So Haddayr and I drove to the gas station where I bought a cheap two gallon gas can and then back to the car.
I poured the gas in the tank and then had to jump start the stupid thing again and off we went. About a mile. When the car died again, not because it ran out of gas, but because it just wanted to die. I was able to pull into a parking lot and, because Haddayr was right behind me, I jump started the car once more.
I turned the car around to pull back onto the street. And the car died again. So Haddayr and I debated whether or not to call a tow truck even though the mechanic was less than a mile away. Instead, I charged the battery once more. This time, the car ran until we pulled in front of the garage.
Turns out the battery was frozen, though our mechanic (who, sincerely, is an amazing mechanic by the way) couldn't figure out why the battery was drained in the first place. Since the battery was less than a year old, he replaced that free of charge. But then there was the fan belt. And the tie-rod. And the rear brake pads. And the oil change. All told, the bill came to about $900. Did I mention that we got the car for free and we've already spent close to three or four thousand on it? Yay, expensive fancy imported "free" cars! (pppbbbbbbbttttthhhhhhhtttt!)
