Levi Stubbs is dead at 72.
I've never been a huge fan of Motown. When it comes to soul, I've always been more partial to the Muscle Shoals sound. But there was something about Levi Stubbs voice that I loved. Something that separated itself from the rest of that clean, smooth Berry Gordy product. When Levi Stubbs sang in that amazing baritone, it sounded like he meant it.
And he was just as great as the voice of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors.
