A Song I Can Dance To

It's not just that this is a song you can dance to, it's a song that demands one dance to the music, and no, it's not Sly and the Family Stone's "Dance to the Music," but "Sing a Simple Song." Larry Graham's bass doesn't propel this song forward so much as it gyrates and grooves, jerking and twisting and getting deep down into your body. It's laid down atop a beat that pushes you forward, walkin' walkin' walkin' walkin' walkin' in the street, and you can almost feel your muscles urged on by Sly's long groaning scream. The song grabs a hold of you, slips inside, and takes over your every movement as you quiver and pulse beneath its influence. In the end you feel sweaty, exhausted, and utterly fulfilled and satisfied. "Yaaaaaaa, ya, ya, yaaa, yaaaaa . . ."
